Business Architecture Certifications Built for Real-World Practitioners
BACOE™ Business Architect Certification is designed to demonstrate that you can perform Business Architecture, not simply pass an exam.
Through Business Architecture Center Of Excellence™ certification, practitioners learn, perform, and demonstrate practical Business Architecture using real-world issues, models, relationships, capabilities, and organizational needs.
Certification Based on What You Can Actually Do
Some certification approaches measure how well you remember information. BACOE focuses on whether you can apply Business Architecture in practice. Choose the BACOE Certification Path That Matches Your Experience
BACOE supports professionals at different stages of their Business Architecture practice. Certification can begin through practitioner training or, for qualified professionals, through demonstrated work products. Existing BACOE practitioners also have defined Re-Certification options.
Training and Certification Workshop
For professionals developing their Business Architecture knowledge and practical ability, BACOE Training and Certification Workshops combine education with hands-on performance.
Participants build models, complete analyses, apply Business Architecture methods, and demonstrate their ability within a practical project environment.
The objective is not simply to complete training. It is to leave prepared to perform Business Architecture work in your organization.

No-Cost Practitioner Certification
Already performing Business Architecture at the level BACOE expects?
Qualified practitioners can pursue BACOE Business Architect Certification without attending the workshop by submitting equivalent work products for practitioner review.
The submission follows the same general pattern BACOE uses for work-product-based Re-Certification and must provide enough evidence for BACOE to evaluate practical Business Architecture performance. BACOE currently charges no fee for this review as part of its mission to advance the Business Architect profession, discipline, and base of understanding.

Re-Certification
BACOE certifications have defined validity periods because continuing professional performance matters.
When Re-Certification is required, practitioners have two routes.
Option 1: Re-Attend a Certification Workshop — Re-attend an eligible BACOE Certification Workshop at a 30% reduction from the current Workshop fee. The reduction applies to eligible Distance Learning and Self-Paced options. The private one-on-one Workshop is excluded from the fee reduction.

What You Learn and Demonstrate
BACOE certification focuses on the elements required to understand a business, establish relationships between those elements, and move from Business Architecture models toward practical organizational action.
- Goals and strategies
- Processes and activities
- Materials and data
- Roles and responsibilities
- Locations
- Events and triggers
- Architecture Models
- Relationship Models
- Business Capabilities
- Initiatives and projects
- Stakeholder understanding
- Prioritization
The objective is to demonstrate how these elements work together, not simply identify them individually.
BACOE's practitioner approach emphasizes traceability from business understanding through relationships, Business Capabilities, initiatives, priorities, and the organization's desired state.

Common Questions About BACOE Business Architect Certification
What is BACOE Business Architect Certification?
BACOE Business Architect Certification is a practitioner-based certification focused on demonstrated Business Architecture ability. Practitioners learn and perform Business Architecture activities, develop models and analyses, and demonstrate practical understanding for review by experienced Business Architecture practitioners.
Is BACOE a Business Architecture course or a certification?
It includes both training and certification pathways. Through the workshop route, participants learn Business Architecture methods and perform practical work as part of the certification process. Qualified practitioners may also pursue certification through submission and review of equivalent work products.
How is BACOE different from an exam-only certification?
BACOE does not make multiple-choice exam performance the foundation of practitioner certification. The approach emphasizes applying Business Architecture, developing models, conducting analysis, and demonstrating that the practitioner can perform Business Architecture work.
What are the four BACOE Business Architect certification levels?
The four classifications are Business Architect, Senior Business Architect, Distinguished Business Architect, and Business Architect Fellow. Each successive grade recognizes greater levels of experience, demonstrated Architecture Development work, professional recommendations, and contribution to the field.
Can I become a BACOE Certified Business Architect without attending a Workshop?
Yes. Qualified practitioners may pursue BACOE Business Architect Certification by submitting equivalent Business Architecture work products for review. The work must provide sufficient evidence for BACOE to assess practical Business Architecture performance.
Is there a fee for the work-product certification route?
BACOE currently states that there is no fee for the practitioner work-product review used for the no-cost certification pathway.
How long is BACOE Business Architect Certification valid?
Validity depends on the certification grade. Business Architect certification is valid for up to two years. Senior Business Architect and Distinguished Business Architect classifications are valid for up to three years according to their respective requirements, while Business Architect Fellow is valid for up to five years.
How does BACOE Re-Certification work?
BACOE provides two primary Re-Certification routes. Practitioners may re-attend an eligible Certification Workshop or submit equivalent Business Architecture work products for review. BACOE currently does not charge for the work-product Re-Certification review.
What does BACOE look for in submitted Business Architecture work?
BACOE looks for a traceable progression from Architecture Models into relationship or implementation models, followed by the generation and definition of projects, initiatives or Business Capabilities. The submission should also demonstrate stakeholder understanding and the criteria used to prioritize move-ahead activity.
Does BACOE Certification focus only on theoretical Business Architecture knowledge?
No. The certification is specifically positioned around practical Business Architecture performance. BACOE expects practitioners to demonstrate how they use Business Architecture concepts, models, analysis, relationships, capabilities, and prioritization in practice.
Move From Knowing Business Architecture to Practicing It
BACOE Business Architect Certification is built around a straightforward principle: professional certification should demonstrate your ability to perform the work. Choose the path that matches your experience and build or demonstrate the practical Business Architecture capability required to move from understanding to action.
